Our natural environment is in trouble. We are losing the diversity of life (biodiversity) on Earth at an unprecedented rate. This message has been strongly broadcast since the Earth Summit in Rio in 1992, which put ‘sustainability’ on the global agenda. Twenty years later, the situation is even more critical, not only on an environmental front but on a social and economic front as well. The time for talking is over, the time for doing is upon us.

Many people have heard the environmental plea, but how do we cope with daily realities and still live with nature, not against her?

By sharing our stories we can learn a great deal from each other about how to restore biodiversity & improve lives.

Gondwana Alive offers you this platform to share what you are doing at home, work, school or in your community.

What has worked, what hasn’t worked? Please share your lessons and suggestions with us and with each other.

For useful tips on what you can do - download the Smart Living Handbook, support our Projects and other interesting intiatives listed under our Blogroll.

Scientists believe that an asteroid slammed into the earth 65 million years ago.

It wiped out the dinosaurs and created the fifth mass extinction of life on earth.

Humankind has had the same destructive impact on the earth as that asteroid.

We are turning a lush beautiful earth into a grey, barren slum unable to support life.

WHAT IS GONDWANA

Gondwana Alive is named for the southern land mass (Gondwana) that broke up millions of years ago into the southern hemisphere continents we know today. It is an apt name given that most of the remaining natural biodiversity on the planet is found in the southern hemisphere.
