The endangered Western Cape Leopard Toad recently took up residence at Skilpadsvlei in Kommetjie, Cape Town, South Africa. The urban wetland was rehabilitated by the City of Cape with the assistance of 4 community coastal stewards funded by the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund.
The stewards are mentored by Gondwana Alive and the Kommetjie Environmental Awareness Group, and are in the process of developing a multiplicity of rehabilitation, field guiding, education and business skills to enable them to provide environmental support services on the Cape Peninsula – a biodiversity hotspot.
You can read more about the stewards activities and impact over the past 8 months in the Lottery Report – 16 August 2012
